June-Sept. -- Villa is defeated by Obregon at Leon, takes refuge in Chihuahua

October 19 -- U.S. and six Latin American nations recognize Carranza government

Nov. 1 -- Villa's forces defeated at Agua Prieta (U.S. provides transport to Carranza troops)

1916

Jan. 11 -- Villa's men kill 16 American mining engineers on train in Chihuahua

March 9 -- Villa's men raid Columbus, New Mexico killing 19 Americans

March 15 -- Gen. John J. Pershing crosses border on "Punitive Expedition"

April 12 -- Skirmish between Pershing's forces and Carranza troops at Parral

June 21 -- Battle at Carrizal -- 23 Americans taken prisoner by Carrancistas

Jan. 27 -- U.S. forces start to withdraw from Mexico

Jan. 31 -- New radical Mexican constitution promulgated

Feb. 5 -- Last of Punitive Expedition forces exit Mexico

March 13 -- U.S. accords full diplomatic recognition to Carranza government
